Is the 1% concentration Nizoral AD as potent as prescription-strength 2% Nizoral?
Instead of going through the trouble of getting a prescription for 2% Nizoral for my hair loss regimen, I discovered a 1% concentration of Nizoral available in stores under the name “Nizoral AD.” Would using this be just as good?
Nizoral (Ketoconazole) is typically recommended and prescribed for the reduction of scaling due to dandruff, however it has been found that its ability to create a healthy scalp environment can help hair loss sufferers maintain optimal scalp conditions for hair maintenance and hair regrowth when used in conjunction with hair loss medications such as Propecia and minoxidil.
Typically, the 2% concentration is recommended to be used three times per week, 5 minutes per application. However, in the United States the 2% concentration is available only by prescription. The 2% is available over-the-counter in Canada.
The 1% concentration found in stores under the label “Nizoral AD” is a good substitute for the 2% if obtaining a prescription is not a viable option. Just remember to make sure you are diligent in applying the nizoral shampoo for at least 5 minutes per application to ensure maximum potency. You may also consider bumping up the frequency of use to four times per week to offset the difference in concentrations. That should be the maximum, however, as any more frequent application may just be a waste of time.

rani sharma,
You can purchase Nizoral Shampoo from our Online Hair Loss Treatments Shop. However, you will need to check with your local mail service to ensure there are no shipping restrictions.
I also recommend checking with your local pharmacy or contacting the clinic of Dr. Pathuri Madhu in Hyderabad. They may be able to assist you.
