I am 6 months post-op from my procedure and I am not happy with the results so far, I was under the impression that most of the hair should already be grown by 6 months, is this true?

Unfortunately, hair restoration is a process that requires a bit of faith and patience. Immediately following a hair transplant procedure the scalp is typically pink with tiny scabs forming around the incision sites. The tiny graft incision sites heal quickly within 7-10 days. The redness and tiny scabs in the recipient area typically clear up and fade away within 1-2 weeks. Generally, most patients begin to shed their transplanted hair around the 3rd to 4th week following surgery.

Generally, most patients begin to see noticeable hair growth around 3-4 months after a surgery. Unfortunately, hair growth is a process that requires patience and some individuals may not see any noticeable growth until the 5th or 6th month and even then the growth may not make a cosmetic difference.  It is important to understand that not every patient will grow at the exact same rate. In the beginning stages of hair growth, the hairs are fine and whispy which can make it difficult for a patient to notice or detect.

At 12 months the majority of patients have grown all of their transplanted hair. However, not all of the hair follicles have matured and grown in to their final state. By 18 months all of the hair follicles have grown in diameter creating an even fuller and thicker appearance to the hair transplant procedure.
