Will a hair transplant cause further hair loss?

Is it possible that getting a [tag]hair transplant[/tag] would cause further [tag]hair loss[/tag]? I am aware of [tag]shock loss[/tag] but I was wondering if getting a hair transplant would diminish blood supply to the existing hair and cause further permanent [tag]hair loss[/tag]?

It is certainly possible to walk away from a hair transplant procedure with less hair than you started out with. This possibility is compounded when a physician attempts to thicken existing an existing patch of hair by placing grafts in areas of the scalp that are not bald, but thin. The trauma of the grafts being inserted into the scalp between native hair can cause the surrounding native hair to temporarily shed, hense the term “shock loss.”

Additionally, permanent shock loss can occur due to follicle transection that can occur while making the incisions for the grafts. Luckily, the truly skilled physicians have made every effort to limit the possibility of this from happening. For instance, leading physicians such as Dr. Jerry Cooley and Dr. Ron Shapiro use innovations like custom blades and ultra-refined follicular unit transplant techniques that leave clean, precise graft incisions and placement that greatly reduce trauma to the scalp and the risk of transecting existing follicles.

The risk of permanent shock loss due to follicle transection is just one more reason to research and find a physician that truly cares about their refined techniques and patient results.

It is my opinion that diminished blood supply in the scalp area to native hair is not a large concern. Newly transplanted hairs’ blood demand is not harmful to existing hairs to the point that they would begin shedding due to malnutrition.
