Traveling for Hair Transplant Surgery: How Many Nights Should You Stay?
This question, asked by a member of our hair loss social community and discussion forums, was answered by “Thehairupthere” – a consultant for Coalition hair transplant surgeons Dr. Robert True and Dr. Robert Dorin.
I am planning to travel to get a hair transplant. How long should I stay there? I have heard of some places that recommend flying home immediately after surgery. I have also heard of hair restoration physicians recommending that patients spend 4 nights after the procedure.
What is best? I would, of course, prefer to be in the comfort of my own home. But, is it better to spend some time in the city after the transplant? Thanks in advance for your input.
It’s really what you prefer. You are permitted to fly back the next day but, if you are worried about an issue and would like to see the doctor again, than staying would be best. The longest you would stay would be 10 days with follicular unit transplantation (FUT) so you can heal completely and have your sutures removed.
Most patients do fly a day or two later so don’t worry about it. Just take it easy and make sure to be careful and you won’t have anything to worry about. You can always see your local physician if there is any issue.
