Does Nioxin Shampoo Cause Hair Loss?
Why did Nioxin shampoo cause the remaining hair I had to fall out? I was told it could help stimulate hair regrowth?
Despite what you may have heard, there is no evidence that Nioxin shampoo can fight against or stop female or male pattern baldness. Conversely, Nioxin does not facilitate or cause hair loss either. If you are losing hair due to androgenic alopecia (genetic balding), Nioxin wouldn’t have promoted or prohibited your hair loss from progressing. It is however, a nice shampoo that may help remove excessive sebum on the scalp. Sebum has been known to strangulate healthy hair however, sebum based hair loss is not the same female or male pattern baldness which is caused by genetics.
If you are looking for viable hereditary hair loss treatment solutions, consider Propecia which contains active FDA approved ingredient finasteride (for men only) and Rogaine containing minoxidil (an FDA approved hair regrowth agent). You may also consider adding topical ketoconazole into your regime included in Revita and Nizoral shampoo. By itself, it may not have much if any benefit. But since ketoconazole has been considered a “weak” DHT inhibitor (the hormone responsible for female and male pattern baldness), it might be a nice adjunct treatment to Propecia and Rogaine.
