    TRY CHEAP EYE SHADOW!

I’m a 62-year-old woman with thinning hair. I also color my hair a very, very dark brown (almost black) that produces a high contrast between the white scalp and the dark hair.

I started using Rita Hazan Root Concealer to both color emerging gray roots and tone down my scalp. But it is expensive: $22-$35 depending where you buy it, and that’s for a 1 oz. can. I started researching other scalp and roots concealers but they were all pretty expansive.

I just started using matt eye shadow instead. I apply it to my scalp and roots with a medium size makeup brush. It does make the hair look a little chalky, but I have short curly hair and the base of the hairs are for the most part hidden. The product washes out of the hair fine. I have dark pillow cases, so I can’t comment on that, but the powder is quite loose and I have to wipe off the sink afterward. It also comes off on my hands if I touch my hair or scalp.

But so far I’m very happy with the product. It’s Jordana matt eye shadow; I’m using #01 Total Blackout. It doesn’t have glittery bits like most black eye shadows. And the price is right: $1.99 for .58 oz.

My husband can’t kiss the top of my head anymore, but I don’t have to keep fluffing my hair to hide the bald spots.

I’ll report on any problems with the product.
