Cutting Your Hair After a Hair Transplant
How soon after a hair transplant can I cut my hair? Will cutting my hair short impact the growth of the new transplanted hair?
Thank you for your inquiry.
10 days after hair transplantation surgery, all of the follicular unit grafts are set in place and would have to be surgically removed. Before getting a hair cut however, I’d also wait until all the scabs/crusts are gone. In other words – wait at least 10 days or until all the scabs are gone, whichever comes LAST.
Personally speaking, I like to wait until all the grafts have shed which typically happens between 2-4 weeks after hair restoration surgery.
Regarding the lengthof your hair and frequency of hair cuts…
How long or short you cut your hair and how often is totally up to you and won’t effect the growth of your transplanted hairs. Personally, after my third hair transplant (see my hair loss weblog here), I used to cut my hair down to a 2 clip just about every week with my own clippers – just to keep everything even. Keep in mind that cutting your hair too short may reveal your scar.
