5 Ways To Regrow Your Hair: The Real How-To Guide for the Hair Loss Sufferer
There are thousands of products available to treat hair loss and every single one of them claim to be the best. It can be a daunting task for anyone suffering from male-pattern baldness to research what will work best for them to keep the hair they have and regrow hair they have lost. With this list, I’m going to cut through the hype and lies to present the 5 proven methods that regrow hair.
1. Block DHT –
DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is the root cause of male-pattern baldness. This potent derivative of testosterone binds to the receptor sites in hair follicles. Over time the DHT binding with these vulnerable receptors in the follicle slowly choke the follicle’s ability to produces healthy hairs.
To effectively combat hair loss you have to attack it at its source. There is currently only one DHT-inhibitor that is FDA-approved for the treatment of male-pattern baldness: Propecia. Avodart is another, more potent, DHT inhibitor that is available, however it is not approved for the treatment of MPB.

2. Stimulate Hair Growth –
The only other medication FDA-approved for the treatment of male-pattern baldness other than Propecia is minoxidil (Rogaine).
Minoxidil is available in stores in two strengths: 2% and 5%. The 2% concentration is marketed as “regular strength” while the 5% is touted as “extra strength.” The 2% concentration is also available for use by women. There are other companies that distribute concentrations as high as 15%.
Minoxidil is a lotion that is applied directly to the scalp twice per day. The user must continue applying the treatment for an indefinite amount of time, or as long as he wishes to keep the hair that is grown by minoxidil. The application process is fairly simple. The standard amount in each bottle is 60 mL of fluid. The suggested application is 1 mL to the area twice daily, so one bottle equates to 30 days of minoxidil. The lotion is applied by a dropper to the scalp and is rubbed into the scalp.
It is generally accepted (and advertised on Rogaine boxes and literature) that minoxidil can start growing new hair in about four months. Users can experience growth a little sooner and a little later than the advertised four months, however.

3. Optimize Scalp Conditions –
Nizoral shampoo creates optimum scalp conditions. It has been proven in studies to increase hair count. It truly is the only shampoo available that will help stop hair loss and promote regrowth. There are two concentrations of Nizoral available. The 1% concentration is available over-the-counter under the label “Nizoral
AD.” The more potent 2% concentration is only available by prescription for U.S. residents.
Nizoral is most effective when used three times per week, alternated with a gentle thickening shampoo such as Nioxin. Application time should be around 5 minutes.
4. Hair Restoration Surgery –
The only way to guarantee hair growth is to have DHT-resistant follicles located at the back of the scalp surgically transplanted to the thin spots at the hair line, forelock, vertex or crown. It sounds as if you have received some misinformation about modern surgical hair restoration. State of the art follicular unit hair transplants, when performed by a skilled and experienced hair restoration physician are perfectly safe and virtually pain free.

However, excessive and prolonged scratching associated with severe seborrheic dermatitis can lead to a form of hair loss known as traction alopecia. Excellent question! Women are cautioned against handling crushed or broken Propecia tablets when they are pregnant or may potentially be pregnant “because of the possibility of absorption of finasteride and the subsequent potential risk to a male fetus”. Of course, it goes without saying that ingesting the medication would likely carry an even higher risk.
Some doctors will prescribe finasteride for women with hair loss if they are post-menopausal or certain that pregnancy is not a possibility.
The good news is that men’s 5% Rogaine (minoxidil) is perfectly safe for use by women and many hair restoration physicians recommend it for their balding female patients. However, keep in mind that the higher concentration of minoxidil presents a higher risk of side effects. Of particular concern to females is the risk of increased facial hair growth.
Side effects from Rogaine are generally mild and will subside upon discontinuation of the drug. But, it is always a good idea to consult with your physician before starting any medical hair loss treatment.

Perfectil appears to be a vitamin supplement, designed to promote healthy hair growth and follicular cycling. While these supplements are all important for normal hair, none of the ingredients are actually proven to prevent or reverse hair loss. Additionally, I cannot seem to find information on “Proforma.”
Minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia) are the only two medications proven safe and effective (by the US FDA) for the stabilization and partial reversal of hair loss. While promoting healthy hair growth (through a supplement like Perfectil) is important, if you are truly looking to treat your hair loss, I recommend discussing these specific medications with a trusted physician.

The best advice I can give you is that there is no shampoo that can effectively treat hair loss. If your hair is thinning, the first thing you should do is consult with a dermatologist or other medical doctor specializing in hair loss or hair restoration.
You have not specified if you are male or female so I will address medical options for both. For men, the best medical hair loss treatment available is a combination of Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). These drugs, when used in combination, offer the best chance of retaining existing hair and even regrowing lost hair.
For women, only minoxidil is safe and effective. Female hair loss sufferers should not take finasteride.
Once your hair loss has been evaluated and the cause diagnosed, your doctor will be able to recommend the best treatment options for you.

Thanks for your comments. I’m not sure where you’re getting your information but I hadn’t seen or read anything on the FDA approval of Aloe-vera therapy as a hair loss treatment. Can you point me to such a study? Additionally, the FDA doesn’t prove anything, they approve or “clear” based on proof that’s been submitted to them. The FDA has “cleared” the HairMax Lasercomb based on substantial equivalence to previous devices. Its efficacy has been debatable, but many leading hair loss specialists seem to feel that it might provide marginal benefit to men (and especially women) with thinning hair.
Strand by Strand and hair replacement systems are completely different “treatments”. The treatments discussed above are solutions that grow or regrow the patient’s own naturally growing hair. Strand by Strand and hair replacement are systems (or individual strands) that are attached to the scalp or hair to give the patient the appearance of having their own real growing hair. These systems can indeed be highly natural looking but require ongoing maintenance (and costs) to remain that way.
Just so you know as well, the article above was written prior to the FDA clearance of the HairMax lasercomb.

It’s perfectly safe to use Rogaine (minoxidil) along with Nizoral Shampoo. Minoxidil should be applied twice daily (Once in the morning and once in the evening). Nizoral should be used only about twice weekly.
You may also wish to add Propecia (finasteride) to your hair loss regimen. Rogaine and Propecia are the only two clinically proven and FDA approved medical hair loss treatments.

I want to share something that change my life; at least won me half of the battle. There is a small company called L’bel Paris. They mostly create beauty treatments for women. Now, i’ve tried to use everything to stop my hair falling, but it was getting worst. This friend of mine who works at the retail store in Plaza Las Americas in Puerto Rico says to me “try this three products and let me know what u think”. I said “what the heck!” I paid like 22 dolars for a shampoo, conditioner and a spray. I started using the product and after two weeks i said “another scam.” The guy at the retail store (my friend), told me to allow the product to do its magic. I waited two more weeks and hair stoped falling. I was amazed. Today, its been two years. I stop using the product like eight months ago and hair hasnt started to fall again. I still have my hair. Now, i’ m looking for ways to regrow the one i lost prior to L’bel glorious treatment. I didnt share this sooner cause i didnt want everybody buying and you know that as soon as demand grows, prices go up, but since i see no more hair is falling, i share this. I hope u have the same result! I know how frustrating it is. Now thinking of transplant to cover the areas i did not save. I wish i would have known of the product sooner so i could have save it all 🙁

Gentlemen… Allow me to illustrate some facts of life for you all. I’m almost 35 and my hair loss began around the age of 25… In that time I’ve been through the stress and pain of developing low self-esteem, hating myself, feeling like a freak and so on… eventually I stopped wasting money on all the products out there such as emu-oil and provillous… I used to think I would be alone forever and then I stopped and realised that I’d dated over 34 women in 7 years, most of whom I’d slept with, so this goes to show that women are not as conserned about our hair as we are… we must remember that we’re attracted to what we see more than women are and we’re all conditioned to be this way through 1000s years of evolution. . . Men are supposed to lose their hair. A real man should be bursting with testosterone and any real woman will know this and find it attractive. I’m 34 and I’m just about to enter the 11th month of a fabulous relationship I’m having with my gorgeous girl (who’s 26 and a real beauty)… Guys.. women want an honest reliable man who’s not vain or motivated by greed.. it’s that simple.. Oh and if you’re extra loving the the bedroom and make sure she’s always satisfied then she’ll only ever have eyes for you.. For a male hair loss sufferer your age, the best medical treatment currently available is a combination of Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). However, neither of these drugs is particularly effective for regrowing frontal hair loss.
If you wish to restore your hairline, you may want to learn more about hair transplant surgery.

If you have not yet done so, you should ask your parents to take you to a dermatologist specializing in hair loss. I don’t know the reason for your balding but, if you are suffering the effects of androgenic alopecia (male pattern hair loss), the product you mentioned will do little to nothing to halt the progression of thinning hair.
Your doctor may recommend Rogaine (minoxidil). This is one of only two clinically proven and FDA approved medical hair loss treatments and the only one that is generally considered safe for patients under the age of 18. The other drug is Propecia (finasteride). However, Propecia is not approved for use by males under the age of 18. While you are too young to start Propecia now, your doctor may suggest adding it in a couple of years when you are old enough.
Next, I must stress that there is no non-surgical hair loss treatment currently available that is proven effective at restoring frontal hair loss. I can’t say for sure that your hair will not regrow but that will depend on the cause of your condition.
Lastly, I want to emphasize that a young man such as you should never begin any medical treatment without first consulting with his parents and a physician.

As of now, there are several safe, effective, tested methods for regrowing hair:
1. Preventive medications like Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil).
2. Surgical hair restoration (i.e. hair transplantation).
Frankly, it’s most effective to begin with the proven hair loss medications and stabilize the progressive thinning before even considering surgical hair restoration, so you many want to schedule an appointment with your physician and discuss these drugs.

Although androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness) is genetic, its inheritance pattern (the way it is passed down from one family member to another) isn’t overly clear.
Because of this, just because some members of your family have a full head of hair, does not mean you cannot suffer from baldness. What’s more, some of the past genetic balding theories, such as the idea that it is passed down from the maternal grandfather, simply aren’t true.
The bottom line: if you have hair loss anywhere in your family tree, you can be affected by it.

Hi all, I used Kesh king’s Products from 6 months like Kesh king oil,shampoo even Capsules also,but i didn’t get any positive results from these products. 4 packets of capsules i taken of this,2 oils and 1 shampoo. Your first step should be to consult with a dermatologist. Your doctor may recommend starting medical hair loss treatments like Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride).

I recommend consulting with a trusted physician (a Dermatologist, if possible). You state that you now “have no hair in your whole body,” and this can be something besides androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness). Once you determine what’s causing your hair loss, you can develop a plan to treat it effectively.

Because you have not yet identified what is causing the hair loss, the first thing I highly recommend is scheduling an appointment with a dermatologist or hair restoration surgeon. I have to begin by stating that I do not believe that Kesh King oil is going to have a positive effect on your hair growth but, I have pasted the directions for use from their website below for your reference.

The quantity of the oil should be in proportion to the length and density of your hair so as to be applicable on your complete hair. Male, 31…Been on and off minoxidil 5% for hair loss…started losing hair at 26 slowly and until recently hair loss has become more aggressive. I have found that combing your scalp for 5 minutes prior to applying minoxidil allows for better penetration to scalp upon application…I also recommend using Nizoral 3 times per week to assist in hair maintenance and regrowth…During the other days of the week I suggest a baby shampoo…No fast food or high animal fat diet…Increase fruit and vegetables, get a proper amount of sleep and interestingly enough do a detox or cleanse…Getting rid of built up toxins will improve your skin, hair and overall well-being…Drink plenty of water and add green tea to your diet…I have become more aggressive with my own treatment and have found that I currently am able to maintain what I have left (70%)
The only advise I have for all of us men is be happy your alive to enjoy what’s most important to you…In other words don’t focus on what you can’t control just focus on what you can change.

You guys are truly sad and grasping at straws here..You’re bald, your DNA is the culprit and DHT potions don’t do a thing, but clean your scalp.If you have issue related to stress, etc..It may help, but nothing on earth can fix your DNA unless it’s something that targets your DNA.Science has found the TRUE cause of hair loss in genetics, and that’s the follicle itself has died…They’re looking for a way to turn on dormant genes, which might revert the process, but that’s it guys..There’s no potion to resurrect the dead follicle, you might as well be looking for the fountain of youth, and it’s just not out there..Save your money for wigs, or transplants if you have too..

very interesting john! i was already going to try nizoral, but its the frst i’ve heard the combination of that and green tea.. i will try! have u seen noticable results since combining, or is it sustaining the hair you’ve already got?
are you guys aware of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), a very common chemical found in most shampoos. which, with extensive use, and when people leave products with SLS in our hair for prolonged periods can stop the natural hairs we loose and regrow on daily cycle from growing back. we can buy SLS-free products, or is this another minor thing people worry about. and nizoral contains SLS! and it says to leave it to soak?!?!
ive done a couple of dianabol only cylcles down the gym in the last couple of years, which is a common known factor towards hairloss, my personal trainer has no balness and his been taking them for years? i know some people are more prone than other, genes etc.. i want to keep the hair ive got for as long as possible, im worrid ive mucked up my DHT levels, how can i balnce it..

I have had very good results from the combination of Nizoral and the consumption of green tea. As I experienced hair loss at my temples I opted to try rogaine and was getting really good results but had some side effects such as an increased heart rate and anxiety. Knowing rogaine probably isn’t too good for my heart I switched to this combination and will never turn back. although there is limited research on the two, evidence suggests that they both have positive effects for AGA. I would suggest this combo to anyone suffering from hair loss that would like to revert to safer methods of restoring their hair.

I am surprised that nobody has discovered a natural remedy for hair-loss… Chemicals and surgery only seems a bit scary.

One thing that’s not being said here guys, is that You Are Going Bald, and there’s no cure for this.

It is not unusual to experience an increase in hair loss after taking Propecia for several years. It may be that your genetics are finally overcoming the positive effects of the drug. However, you should discuss this with your prescribing physician. In some cases, a doctor may recommend increasing your dosage to 2mg daily or, you may decide to make the switch to Avodart (dutasteride).

I haven’t researched Emu Oil in great detail, but it appears to claim three different things:
1. It is a mild DHT (dihydrotestosterone – the hormone that directly causes hair loss) inhibitor (you can read more about those here: http://www.hairlosslearningcenter.org/content/topical-hair-loss-treatment/DHT-inhibitors.asp).
2. It’s an anti-inflammatory (you can read more about those here: http://www.hairlosslearningcenter.org/content/topical-hair-loss-treatment/anti-inflammatories.asp)
3. It penetrates the scalp efficiently.
Now, keep a few things in mind: 1. the ability to penetrate the scalp only matters if the product that penetrates is effective 2. DHT inhibitors and anti-inflammatories are definitely limited in their sole treatment of hair loss.
In my opinion, I would stick to proven methods (such as Rogaine and Propecia) and review the information given in those links before adding a DHT inhibitor or anti-inflammatory to your routine (and probably select one that is reviewed and regulated).

Next, I would investigate proven hair loss medications such as finasteride (Propecia), minoxidil (Rogaine), and possibly adding a shampoo that contains ketoconazole (such as Nizoral). At your age, the best thing you can do to help save and strengthen your existing thinning hair is to get on Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil). Neither come with guarantees but have been proven to slow down, stop, and even reverse hair loss in the majority of men. Note that women should not use Propecia.
While only hair transplant surgery is proven to grow hair in completely bald areas, in my opinion, you’re too young to consider this procedure at this point in time. In my opinion, try proven medication for a couple of years first and then re-evaluate your situation.

Propecia will deliver hair growth.
I have seen results in my eyes my buddies. There is side affects in which i changed my mind taking it.
Propecia blocked DHT, however your lose hormones, less interest on females and sex drive go way down.
