I have noticed some minor thinning in my crown and I’m wondering if using Rogaine once per day would still be effective?

Before we answer this question let’s discuss how Rogaine (minoxidil) works and where it works best. Minoxidil only works where you apply it. Therefore, if minoxidil is only applied in the crown it will not work anywhere else.

Minoxidil can be applied anywhere there is thinning hair. Minoxidil works best in the crown, but can be effective in the front part of the scalp and temples. The 5% solution is the most effective solution but is only recommended for men.

Can You Use Minoxidil Once A Day?

Although minoxidil works best twice a day, it can be used once a day and still be effective. Minoxidil’s half life is 22 hours, using the medication once a day will be effective and better than not using anything at all.

Convenience is key! Many patients find that applying 1ml of minoxidil before bed is the most convenient way to use it. Consistency is crucial for efficacy. When using minoxidil once a day, use a little more than the recommended dosage so it can be applied to the entire thinning area.

What Do Clinical Studies Say?

A randomized, single-blind study of once-daily 5% minoxidil versus twice-daily 2% minoxidil; showed that once-daily 5% minoxidil was effective for treating genetic hair loss. The study was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
