This question comes from a member of our hair loss social community and discussion forums:

Recently, I saw an advertisement for a local cosmetic surgery office offering hair transplantation with the NeoGraft Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) device. I consulted with the clinic, and it seemed like the physician at the clinic did not have extensive experience with hair transplant surgery, but said the automated nature of the machine would create a satisfactory result. Because of this, I’m wondering: can an inexperienced physician perform quality FUE with the NeoGraft?

The NeoGraft, like any other motorized FUE device, is simply a tool that enables a physician to perform a procedure.

It isn’t a completely automated device, nor is it a magic wand that allows a neophyte hair transplant surgeon to perform quality FUE. In the right hands, motorized FUE tools can help standardize results and reduce some of the “human error” associated with any surgical procedure. However, for this to occur, the device needs to be in the hands of a trained, experienced FUE surgeon.

Essentially, any motorized FUE device can pose some advantages in the hands of a trained, experienced FUE surgeon, but no tool, automated or otherwise, can compensate for a knowledge gap in the hands of an inexperienced hair restoration physician.
