Hi, I have been using Rogaine since August 2011 due to a receding hairline. I have been applying it to the temples and my frontal hairline with no positive results. In fact, it’s actually destroyed my frontal hairline when I thought minoxidil was meant to prevent more hair loss. I know you might say it’s not FDA approved for hairlines but this site certainly tells people to try using Rogaine on the hairline anyway, which is why I did it only to lose a lot more hair. What will happen if I stop using Rogaine completely and what will happen if I continue using it because last August, in the middle of my hairline, I had 100% thickness and now I can actually see my scalp.
Androgenic alopecia (genetic balding) can happen slowly over a period of years or quite rapidly over a period of months. It is possible that your rapidly thinning hair coinciding with your application of Rogaine may simply be a coincidence. I recommend consulting with a dermatologist.
Stopping Rogaine will result in the eventual loss of any hairs grown by or retained by its use. In other words, you will experience catch-up hair loss. But again, your normal, bald-resistant hairs will not be affected.

HI, I used rogaine twice and it dried my hair to the point it has broken off about four inches. My scalp is also very dry. My whole head of hair has becaome so weak. I would like to know does rogaine cause permanent damage to hair follicles? This was five months ago and hair is stil a mess. Will it get better or is it going ot stay like this? I am still shedding hair. It was shedding because of going hyper with thyroid meds and dermatologist suggested rogaine. but my hair is worse and dry and ugly. Is this permanant? thank you
HI,
I used rogaine twice on my scalp just on the front top of head. But it has dried out all of my hair and it has broken off about 3 inches. this was about five months ago. the reason I used rogaine was because my doctor increased my thyroid medication and I became hyper my hair started to shed a lot and got scared decided to use rogaine. But as I said only twice. My hair is so dry and looks like its burn in the fron. It's still falling and now I am not sure if it's rogaine or my medicine. I lower meds in October and trying to get back to normal dose but Does Rogaiine damage hair follicles permanently? and will my hair get back to normal.. I a very afraid that rogaine has ruined my hiar forever. My scalp is so dry and hair...No oil at all thank you
