Questions to ask during a hair transplant consult.
A regular contributor to our discussion forum (NervousNelly) compiled a list of insightful questions to ask during his hair transplant consultations. I think many of his questions are very useful so I’ve included his list of questions as a reference for others. I suggest all patients make make their own personallized list for their consultations.
Online Hair Transplant Consultation – Many patients often consult with hair restoration physicians who are out of their area over the Internet. Questions one may consider asking during a hair transplant consultation:
-Do you perform Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation?
-What type of closure do you use?
-What size blades do you use?
-How long have you been performing hair transplant surgeries?
-How many techs do you employ?
-How long have they worked for you?
-Am I a candidate for hair transplantation?
-What is the total number of FUs (follicular units) that I have available in my donor area?
-What is your estimate of my donor density?
-Do I have good laxity?
-How many hair transplant sessions do you feel I need for my wants?
-Please draw where you would like to create hairline?
-Do I need temple work?
-What is best plan of attack for surgeries?
-What density do you think we can achieve in recipient area?
-Approx. how many FUs (follicular units) do you plan to use in each zone?
-Approx. how many single hairs vs. doubles, triples, etc.
-Can I achieve the look I want with my donor characteristics?
-Can I meet or talk to previous patients with similar attributes to me?
-What is the cost per FU? Fee structure?
-Can you aid me in financing?
-Can I get a reduced fee for cash or short notice surgery? Travel reimbursement?
-What is your policy for grafts that don’t grow?
-How much time off work will I need?
-Can you get me prescription for propecia or proscar?
