Do Hair Transplant Doctors Really Count Hair Grafts?

Do hair transplant surgeons really count the  number  of follicular unit grafts they are planting? I mean is it physically and humanly possible to count each graft/hair while removing or planting? Do they really count?   As a hair transplant patient I would not count my hair.

An accurate number of follicular unit grafts counted by the technicians/doctor is important in order to know how many recipient sites to make in the scalp.     Therefore, a hair transplant clinic will count the number of  follicular unit grafts that are extracted for hair transplant surgery.   During Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT, these  follicular unit  grafts are  not counted as they are extracted  but as they are being cut from the donor strip after it’s been removed.   In Follicular Unit Extraction  (FUE) / Follicular Isolation Technique (FIT) the grafts are counted as they are removed one at a time.

Though all hair transplant doctors will count the number of grafts that are extracted, not all  of them  will provide a hair count or graft/hair breakdown.     At the Hair Transplant Network  however, we encourage our recommended hair restoration physicians  to count both the number of grafts and hairs in order to provide a more accurate understanding of what a patient has received.   As Pat, the Publisher of Our Community states: “Count hairs not grafts:   More slices doesn’t equal a bigger pizza!”
