What is the difference between Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Isolation Technique (FIT)?

Good question!

These hair transplant procedures are basically the same thing.   If one can point out any technical difference between them it would be the surgical instrument used to extract/isolate the hair follicles.

However, even among FUE/FIT hair transplant doctors, there are variations in the tools used. For example, Dr. Feller uses his own tool that he patented and named “The Feller Punch”. Other clinics have their own such tools.

Don’t be fooled by marketing hype!   Unfortunately, FIT has been promoted as a “better version of FUE” which simply isn’t true.

Both hair transplantation surgeries extract/isolate the hair follicle one by one in the donor area.   Variations range more between hair restoration clinics than they do between these two techniques.   In fact, any time I’ve asked those promoting FIT as a superior FUE the technical difference between procedures, no explanation could be given.

I hope this helps.

  • Irfran,

Depending on the type of hair transplant procedure, prices can range anywhere from $3 to $10 per follicular unit graft. The number of grafts you will require can only be determined by working with a qualified hair transplant surgeon. Your own personal goals, finances, amount of hair loss (present and future) and your available donor supply will ultimately determine how many grafts and procedures you will need.

In my opinion, consult with one of our prescreened hair transplant surgeons at http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com and discuss your goals and your options.

    Best wishes,
