What is the difference between Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Isolation Technique (FIT?   How do these techniques compare with Follicular Unit Transplantation – strip surgery?

There has been some confusion over the differences between these two techniques so I thought I’d address it here.

Procedurally, there is no difference between FUE  and FIT.   Unfortunately, some hair transplant doctors have used the term “FIT” as a marketing tool to promote a supposedly superior technique over FUE.   This is simply not the case.

Both hair restoration procedures work by using a refined extraction tool (typically between .6mm to 1.3 mm) to extract follicular unit grafts from your donor area (the sides and back of your head). They are then transplanted into recipient sites that are created  with custom cut blades or needles.

The only difference  (and this  is more dependent on the clinic than the technique) is the extraction or isolation tool used to  remove the follicular unit graft.

Please understand that neither of these techniques are the same as strip surgery.   To learn more about Follicular Unit Transplantation via Strip Vs FUE/FIT, I recommend reading the following FUE Vs FUT.   See also the following Hair Loss Q&A Blog.   and a thread on our discussion forum  here.
