In addition to hair loss, I’m not experiencing a lot of dandruff and scalp dryness. I am already using Nizoral shampoo. What can I do to eliminate this?
Thank you for your inquiry.
Hair Loss
Nizoral shampoo is being used by many to control both dandruff and as an anti-DHT agent to help fight against hair loss. Though active ingredient ketoconazole has not been FDA approved as a hair loss treatment, there is some scientific evidence that suggest it might be as effective as 2% minoxodil.
The best defense against hereditary hair loss are FDA approved medications such as Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxodil).
Hair Loss, Dandruff, and Dry Scalp
You might want to try an anti-dandruff shampoo. To shampoos that come to mind are Nizoral and Head and Shoulders.
Because you are already using Nizoral shampoo, though this seems contradictory in nature – overuse of Nizoral shampoo has been known to dry out your hair and scalp.
Eliminating Nizoral from your regime while using “gentler” shampoos might help improve the condition of your scalp. If you are using Nizoral for it’s possible anti-DHT properties, consider using Revita shampoo that contains the same active ingredient ketoconazole and is less harsh on the scalp.
Personally speaking, I used to use Nizoral three times a week and it was significantly drying out my hair and scalp. I switched to Revita two months ago and have not had any problems.
Additionally, overuse of hair care products such as gel, hairspray, or hair dye can cause this. You might want to minimize/eliminate the use of these products to see if this also helps.
