Hello, I’m 23 years old suffering from male pattern baldness and have been developing a bald spot on my crown for about 18 months now.   I have been saving for a hair transplant but I really dont know who to go to for the procedure.   The internet is just  packed with so much information.  Could anyone recommend a hair restoration physician  in the Sydney area?   I’d really appreciate any feedback.

Before considering  surgery, have you considered non surgical hair loss treatment options  such as Propecia (finasteride)  and  Rogaine (minoxidil)  to help with hair loss  prevention?   When using these two  drugs in combination with  one another, you are presented with the greatest chance of stimulating hair regrowth].

Keep in mind that hair transplantation does nothing to combat against future baldness.     Instead, a surgeon removes hair from the “safe zone” on the sides and back of your head and transplants it into balding areas of your scalp.   For those who are still losing hair, non surgical hair loss products  become an important overall part of one’s long term  restoration  game plan.

In my opinion, consider Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil)  for a year (assuming no side effects), and then reconsider whether or not  hair replacement  surgery is right for you.

Best wishes,

  • If you go propecia/minox/combo route, make sure you are taking dosage that suits your body. All studies I have seen show effectiveness anywhere from .25 to 1mg. I take .25, but my body responds to medicine big time, (im AB blood type, which I think makes a difference, but that's another blog on its own.) If you don't want to swallow a pill, good HT docs are not hard to find these days, I won't endorse anyone, but the good ones show you why they are good. My doc had 3 patients meet me before I had my first(I was 27). Also realize that when/if you have the surgery young, you may need/want another.
