I am suffering from hair loss and considering hair transplant surgery.   I want to know if a  surgeon can  transplant hair in between my existing hair or only in bald areas.

Yes, this is performed quite regularly  in hair replacement  surgery.

How densely packed hairs can be placed together while minmizing the risk of damage to the existing natural hair ultimately depends on  hair density, the hair transplant  physician’s skill, the type of incision made  (paralel (sagital) or perpendicular (coronal/lateral)), and the size of the follicular unit grafts.    Using minimally invasive blades and ultra refined follicular unit hair transplantation, the hair replacement surgeon can densely pack more hair safely into an area with existing native hair without damaging it or causing transection.   A quality hair restoration surgeon will work delicately and carefully making incisions to avoid transection and properly angle them so  that the hair will grow in  a direction that mimics nature.

I hope this helps.

  • just had 1400 graft HT done last week, 800 to crown, 600 (592 to be exact) were in-between, took over 10 hours because it is way more demanding HT, also shock loss may play a factor, but any good HT doc can do it, and if you have long hair like me (like Pete Wentz, not Fabio) then its definitely a must for my hairstyle.
