Fitness/Sports After Hair Transplant
How soon after hair transplant surgery can I resume physical activity such as working out and/or sports?
Good question. One can resume working out very lightly around 2 weeks after hair transplantation. It is best to start with cardiovascular exercises and/or very light weight training.
Use common sense. Do not do any exercise that will put a strain on the donor scar. It is probably best to avoid doing the type of crunches for your abdominals where you place your hands on your head. As people do them there is plenty of temptation to pull the head with the hands and this could potentially stretch the scar. Instead, place your arms by your sides on on your abdominals.
Avoid any sports (or play with 50% intensity with extreme caution) that can cause strain for at least a month. Softball is one such example as it involves sprinting and heavy twisting when batting.
It is also best to avoid any contact sports for at least the first 3 months. This includes hockey, football, contact martial arts, etc. At all cost – you want to avoid potentially getting hit in the head. This could cause a lot of pain in the donor area since it will still be tender and could impact the healing process.
I hope this helps.
