Bumping Your Head After a Hair Transplant
I just had a hair transplant 3 weeks ago. I’m a little concerned because I banged my head pretty hard. It’s not bleeding or anything but it really hurts. Could I have lost some of my hair grafts? Should I be concerned?
Hitting your head the first week out from hair transplantation would be of some concern since the hair grafts are not completely secured, therefore there is a possibility of losing some of the grafts if you are not careful. This will most likely be indicated by blood. In the event you bump your head in the first week after hair restoration surgery, it is best to consult with your hair restoration physician.
However, at 3 weeks post-op, the follicular unit grafts are safe. The only way to remove the transplanted hair at this point would be to have it surgically removed.
Even if you hit your head hard enough to bleed after the first 10 days, the chances that a hair follicle has been damaged is minimal. The removal of a hair follicle itself would cause bleeding let alone the blood from hitting your head.
So the good news is, hitting your head will not cause you to lose hair. The bad news is you may be left with a bump and some pain for a few days.
