After my hair transplant I got a minor swelling. But my doc had told that I will lose all the hair after 2-3 weeks and then after 2 months start
getting permanent hair. But even after 1 month not all transplanted hair have fallen out. In fact they have started growing will this cause any problem that I may loose the transplanted hair.

Some times a hair transplant patient will get some swelling within a day or two after surgery. Most hair transplant surgeons give the patient medication to inhibit swelling and suggest using an ice pack on the forehead to prevent any possible swelling. Fortunately with today’s much more refined and minimally invasive hair transplantation techniques post operative swelling is much less common.

It is normal for your transplanted hairs to shed in the first few weeks after surgery. The transplanted hair follicle remains and typically will resume growing new hair three to four months after surgery. If you’re transplanted hair continues to grow that is completely fine.

Best wishes for growing a bumper crop of new hair in a few more months.

  • I had a FUT hair transplant 2 days ago. I took the bandages off and decided to take random pictures of the work that was done. After reviewing the photos, I noticed a rather large area in the top to back crown where there is no prick marks at all. I am very concerned with this. Is it possible that the Dr or staff could have actually missed this entire area?

  • Jass,

At your age, there is a decent chance that you are a good hair transplant candidate. Granted, it depends on your level of hair loss, how the loss is progressing, if you are currently utilizing preventive therapies (like minoxidil/Rogaine or finasteride/Propecia), and what type of restoration you're looking for.

I'm a bit unsure what you mean by '100% result,' but remember that rarely is anything 100% in life. Hair restoration relies on re-creating the 'illusion of density,' which means that although you'll probably never have the exact density (number of hairs per square centimeter) you did before losing your hair, you can definitely obtain the appearance of a full head of hair via hair transplantation.

As far as safety is concerned, hair transplant surgery is a very safe procedure (in my opinion). Only local anesthetic is used, and as long as you seek a quality surgeon, post-operative infections are unlikely. Altogether, I'd say it's a safe and effective procedure.

As far as hair transplant clinics in Canada, I highly suggest reviewing our recommended hair transplant surgeons in Canada: http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/Consult-a-Physician/hair-loss-doctors-NorthUS.asp . Any of these highly reviewed, excellent hair transplant surgeons will be more than happy to consult with you and help create a hair loss treatment plan. Good luck!

  • Hi, I wanted to have hair plantation. My age is 26. Is the hair plantation will give me 100% result? How safe hair plantation is? Can you suggest me good clinic in Toronto, Canada.

  • Mike,

Although the follicular unit grafts are securely anchored by 10 days after a hair transplant, it is recommended that patients wait at least three weeks before applying chemicals such as hair dye and permanent wave lotion. Those chemicals are mild when compared to a Brazilian Keratin Treatment which often contains a very high level of formaldehyde.

In my opinion you should wait at least one month before undergoing this treatment again but I highly recommend consulting with your hair restoration surgeon regarding this.

I also recommend that you opt for the formaldehyde free treatments being offered by many salons these days.

    Best of luck,
    David (TakingThePlunge)

  • Hi ... Am Mike, i've done transplant 2 weeks ago. am wondering, is it safe to do brazilian keratin therapy? if yes, when would be safer to do so?

  • fb,

Though smoking isn't good for anyone's overall health, I haven't heard of anything losing hair due to smoking.

Are you sure he's losing transplanted hair or do you think it's possible that his natural hair loss has progressed making his hair transplant appear thinner? Obviously, if it's the former, he should contact his hair transplant surgeon as soon as possible. However, in most cases, as male pattern baldness progresses, a hair transplant will appear thinnner. This is why many balding men complement their hair transplant with hair loss medication like Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil) in order to attempt to control and prevent future thinning.
