This common question was asked by a member of our hair loss social community and discussion forums:

I recently underwent hair transplant surgery and I’m wondering how long I need to wait before I can wear a hat or “beanie” again?

Normally, the newly implanted follicular unit grafts are completely anchored between post-op day 7 through 10, and it is usually difficult to dislodge or damage the new hair with a hat/beanie by this point in time. Knowing this,  it seems like wearing a hat or beanie any time after post-op day 10 is safe.

Many hair restoration physicians schedule an appointment to review healing and progress at 7-10 days after a hair transplant procedure, so this may be a good time to make sure all the grafts are fully anchored and discuss wearing a hat. Also, remember to always follow a clinic’s post-operative instructions as closely as possible!
