How long should someone wait for a second hair transplant to optimize the scar? I often hear 12 months quoted as the waiting period before the second procedure, but isn’t that more about seeing the full results from the first one? Is there any benefit of waiting more than 12 months to get a thinner scar? If so how long should I wait?

I believe waiting 12 months after hair transplant surgery is optimal between strip procedures for 1 solid reason and an a second possible reason. The first and real reason is to give the scalp and its elasticity time to return. The second reason is if hair is being transplanted in the same area to add density to it, it’s good to let the first hair restoration procedure come to maturity. This reason to wait a year becomes null if hair is being transplanted in virgin areas however, the first one still applies.
