Is Immediate Hair Growth after Hair Transplant Normal?
The following response, posted on our Hair Loss Social Community and Discussion Forums was written by recommended hair restoration surgeon Dr. Tejinder Bhatti:
I’m 15 days post-hair transplant. No noticeable shedding as of yet, only shock loss. To my eyes the transplanted hair appears to be growing. It is definitely longer than it was the day of the surgery. Does this normally occur before shedding?
This is not technically “hair growth”. Once the hairs are transplanted they are cut off from their blood supply and it takes time for new blood vessel formation to deliver blood back to the follicle.
What you are witnessing are the hairs being pushed out of your scalp until they shed a few weeks later. More than half of the hair shaft is under the skin so it takes a few weeks for this process to occur.
