I am considering a hair transplant and I keep hearing hair transplant patients referring to how many hair grafts they have received.   But how many hairs are in a follicuar unit graft?

Many hair loss sufferers seeking hair loss help seek hair transplantation as a means to restore hair.   The term “graft” is typically used to represent a group of hairs that are then transplanted in a single recipient site.   Ultra refined follicular unit hair transplantation  is the new “gold standard” in hair restoration surgery using follicular units which are hairs in groups of 1s, 2s, 3s, and sometimes 4s which are hairs as they grow naturally in the scalp.

It is said that on average, that there are approximately 2.2 hairs per follicular unit graft though every hair transplant patient varies due to an individuals physiological hair grouping and hair characteristics.

In my opinion, there is certainly a benefit when the hair transplant clinic provides their patients with detailed hair graft/hair count breakdowns. It is also equally important to know one’s hair characteristics and how it can contribute to the overall illusion of hair density.

The number of grafts/hairs needed will ultimately depend upon the balding area to be covered, the amount of native hair or natural hair left in the area, and hair characteristics.
