Post Hair Transplant Healing: Hair Loss with Falling Scabs Normal?
This below question was asked by a member of our Hair Loss Social Community and Discussion Forums and answered by Janna, the lead medical technician for Coalition hair restoration surgeons Dr. Ron Shapiro and Dr. Paul Shapiro.
When scabbing forms and a patient begins to very gently remove scabs after a hair transplant, is it possible there are sometimes hairs in the scabs once they break loose? I am 11 days post-op and I am worried a graft with multiple hairs may have come out.
I took a picture with my cell-phone (see image below) and tried to blow it up. It’s not the best quality but in the picture it’s clear there are little hairs in the scab that fell off my scalp. Or, is it a graft(s) that came out?
Yes, it’s normal to see hairs falling out along with scabs. The concern is if you saw them out a day or two after your hair restoration surgery but, 11 days post-op, it’s to be expected.
You’ll start shedding the majority of your transplanted hairs from now until about a month and a half after surgery.
