How Long Should I Take Propecia Before Hair Transplantation?
I am going to consult with a hair restoration physician in Florida in the next few weeks. I am not currently on Propecia but I plan on getting on it soon. How long should I be taking Propecia before my hair transplant?
How long you need to take Propecia (finasteride) depends on whether or not transplanted hair is being placed in between and around your natural hair. If not, then you do not have to be on Propecia for any length of time before undergoing hair restoration surgery. However, if your hair transplant doctor is transplanting hair in between and around existing native hair, it is recommended to be on Propecia (finasteride) for at least 6 months but preferably one whole year. Propecia may help strengthen any minaturizing hairs being impacted by Dihydrotestosterone or DHT (the hormone responsible for genetic hair loss).
I hope this helps.
