Treating a Receding Hairline
I’ve been noticing my hairline receding in front and on top towards the “Widows Peak” area and in the temples. Can anyone tell me what the best way to begin approaching this problem may be? Is the Rogaine foam treatment going to give me any results in those areas?
Rogaine typically does not work well in the hairline area. This is even stated by the manufactor. But Rogaine can some times stop or slow hair loss in the back/crown area.
You may also want to consider getting a prescription for Propecia to halt your overall hair loss. It is generally more effective than Rogaine. To find a prescreened hair restoration physician who can write you a prescription, visit the Hair Transplant Network.
Hair transplants can permanantly restore your hairline. But you need to realize that hair transplants do not create new hair. Rather hair transplants relocate the bald resistant hair from the back and sides of your head (the “donor areas”) where they will then grow for a life time.
The catch is that you only have a limited amount of bald resistant hairs on your head. Therefore you don’t want to use to use all your limited donor follicles up in a given area because if your hair loss progresses you may need donor hair/follicles to fill in other balding areas. This is particularly critical if you are very young and it is too early to know how much hair you may loose and thus where you will want to allocate your limited supply of bald resistant donor hair follicles. To see animations about why you loose hair and how hair transplant’s work, visit the multimedia section of the Hair Transplant Network.
Best wishes to you in stopping your hair loss and reversing your receding hairline.

Erik,
Minoxidil is the key ingredient in topical hair loss solutions like Rogaine, and is clinically proven safe and effective for hair loss. Although it’s technically tested effectively for hair loss prevention and regrowth in the crown and mid-scalp, many hair loss sufferers also report good results in the frontal-scalp and hairline area.
As far as purchasing minoxidil/Rogaine products is concerned, I highly suggest reviewing our online hair loss store: https://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/hair-loss-treatments.html
As far as the azeliaic acid is concerned, there seems to be some anecdotal evidence and a study from the last 1980s claiming it helps block dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – the hormone responsible for male pattern baldness on the scalp, but this claim has not been backed by any further studies.
I hope this helps!

I’m turning 24 and i have a widow’s peak that i’ve never been fond of. I recently noticed my hairline is starting to recede, making the WP more pronounced. My question is this: i read on another site that using a product that has a mixture of minoxidil and azeliaic acid works better for my targeted hair loss region. Is this true? If so, where would i be able to purchase it?

At 17, it’s possible that you are beginning to experience the start of a “maturing hairline,” but I highly doubt that any hair loss (real or perceived) is being caused by your shampoo. However, I do recommend scheduling an appointment with your personal physician, bringing in the shampoo, and letting him/her review the contents and determine whether or not anything in it can cause hair loss (though, again, I do doubt it would be the shampoo). Good luck!

If you are suffering from hair loss, you should consult with a dermatologist in order to determine the cause. If you are suffering from androgenic alopecia (male pattern balding) then you may very well benefit from Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride).
Shampoos and oils will not slow your balding or regrow hair.

Kevin,
Shedding for the first 3 months (or so) is common with treatments like Rogaine (minoxidil). However, the ‘trade off’ is that after the hair sheds, it grows back thicker and stronger because of the medication. It’s definitely tough (using the foam knowing that you’re likely to experience an initial shed), but many patients are very satisfied with minoxidil use (it’s a proven preventive treatment) and continue utilizing it despite the initial shedding phase.
Good luck!

Rogaine worked on my receding hairline / enormous widows peak. Pretty stoked cause I’m in my mid 20s and a bald head just doesn’t work on me.

hi everyone
im 25 and just started losing my hair in the last year or so at the front and peaks. it kind of annoyed me so despite warnings of it being ineffective i went ahead with some rogaine 5% on those areas. its been 6 weeks and results have so far been pretty decent. little white hairs are there, more so then before i think. wish i’d taken photos for before/after. i got a 3 month supply on ebay for like 30 euros (40 U.s.) and to be honest, im happy with what ive seen so far. im not expecting miracles, but it seems to be helping. hope this helps some people make a choice.

The only problem is you have to be dedicated and do the excercises daily it doesnt work over night or weeks it took me 6 months to see results its a long time but its worth it

Alexel,
The advice I would give you will depend on whether you’re male or female. In my opinion, all females suffering from hair loss should undergo extensive medical testing by a trained dermatologist / trichologist to rule out any non-genetic causes. If the cause happens to be genetic, women can try the proven hair growth stimulant Rogaine and add a topical antiandrogen such as ketoconazole, Crinagen, S5 Cream (topical spironolactone) or Revivogen to their regime. The best defense against genetic baldness for men (male pattern baldness) is Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine.
I hope this helps.

I’m 29 years old and getting 30 soon I am getting freak finding my hairline is shedding. I perceived losing lots of Hair everytime I took a Bath a few weeks ago. It Has a psychological effect thinking about my look if I’m gonna lose my hair. I went to a traditional hair treatment center but disappointed knowing the cost, holly it’s expensive. She had a very good explaination about why im losing my hair but a very discouraging price of treatment. Ived been considering lots of factor why my hair is shedding such as stress, shampoo Im using, taking a bath with hot/ warm water, climate, and the food I ate. But all of these are my personal conclusions. Do the folowing factors really contributed to my hairclose? Do I need to use rogaine preventing my hair from shedding? This just only happened when I came in Canada where the climate is different indeed from my origin which the climate is humid. Can u gve me advise on what to do preventing my hair from losing particularly the hairline.

I’m 20. My hair started receding last October when I was 19. It is definately depressing because you always think to yourself, “that can’t ever happen to me.” But it does. Oh well. The only thing that bothers me is not going to be able to attract the women if I decide to shave my head. On the other hand I am a psycho when it comes to working out and eating healthy. So maybe if I get that beach body the hair wont matter? haha one can only hope!
But on a more serious note. I have just learned to be thankful for the things I do have. Two legs, two arms, 20/20 vision and much much much more. It’s hair people. What does hair do for you honestly? Not much other than looks and looks aren’t the most important thing either.

Unfortunately hair loss is an absolute confidence killer. I am 30 yrs old and only recently, last year or so, discovered through pictures how bad my hairline was receding. However, I have been using Rogaine foam 5% for about two months and noticing a considerable difference. Although it is mostly a peach fuzz, it is definitely growing longer and thicker. Despite the many claims I have read from Rogaine users that it will not regrow hair for the temple region, may only maintain and prevent from further progression, it has been very effective for me throughout my hairline. It appears to be growing back all the hair I have previously lost. However, be warned that I did experience quite a bit of shedding with new hairs growing in place of lost regions. Whatever your treatment options may be, I would absolutely recommend Rogaine. I am extremely satisfied and look forward to further results.

James,
It’s unfortunate that people especially high school kids can be so cruel sometimes. Unfortuately, male pattern baldness is not age discriminatory. While in my opinion you are a little young to start using Propecia, you may want to talk to your doctor about using Rogaine. You may also want to get his medical advice as to when he feels it’s safe for you to consider Propecia.
In the meantime, you may want to consider new hairstyles that will help camouflage your recession. More importantly, learn to ignore the idiots who make jokes at your expense in order to feel better about themselves. The truth is, those who make fun of others are insecure themselves.
Here’s another little secret. Hair is unimportant to most women. Women are much more attracted to a man’s face, physique and most of all, a man’s confidence, inner strength, and kindness. Don’t let your hair loss prevent you from going after what you want.
All the Best,
