There has been a lot of buzz on the Internet lately surrounding hair loss treatments that implement stem cells and “growth factors”.  Recently, a UK based company known as Recoverup has received quite a lot of attention for promoting a treatment based on extracting stem cells from a patient’s own fat cells “ethically, safely and effectively.” Although the company is registered in Edinburgh, Scotland,   they only offer this treatment through clinics in Taiwan and Malaysia. The company claims that this is due to legal issues regarding the use of stem cell treatments in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

According to Recoverup’s website, their process involves extracting Autologous Adult Adipose (AAA) stem cells through a small liposuction procedure, culturing them to increase volume and then injecting them into the balding scalp to induce hair growth. While touted as a quick and simple procedure that can be performed in just a single day, the procedure is estimated to cost between $8,000 and $13,000 not including travel expenses to Asia.

So, is there any evidence to backup their hair growth claims? Can Recoverup deliver on its promise to restore lost hair to balding men and women worldwide or is it destined to be just one more in a long line of disappointments? • Baldy,

Recoverup claims to offer this treatment right now through clinics in Asia. However, I suggest following the link above to the article, "Recoverup: A Revolutionary Stem Cell Treatment or Hair Loss Hype?".

At the moment, there is no evidence to support their claims of hair regrowth.

  • Nice article. Now the scientists are making new methods to stop this problem and much of them are successful.
