Shock Loss after Hair Transplant Surgery: How Common Is It?
This question, from a member of our hair loss social community and discussion forums, was answered by Coalition hair transplant surgeon Dr. Glenn Charles:
How much should I realistically worry about shock loss? I know it happens and while I am aware that it takes months to see positive impact from the hair transplant, I am really concerned about the additional hair loss potentially making me look more bald for months before there is any substantial improvement. Any thoughts?
Shock loss is always a possibility when placing follicular unit grafts around existing hairs. The more unhealthy the original hairs are, the better the chance they can shed post-operatively from shock.
Although it is not easy, sometimes you have to try and focus on the bigger picture and long term hair growth.
