Staple Hole Scars From the Hair Transplant Donor Strip Closure?
This question, from a member of the Hair Restoration Discussion Forums, was answered by Jotronic – a senior member and consultant to Coalition physicians Dr. Victor Hasson and Dr. Jerry Wong:
I recently underwent a follicular unit transplantation procedure where my extracted donor strip was closed using staples. I’m curious, will the holes left by the staples create a “train track” scar around the natural strip scar?
Don’t worry, I’ve yet to see permanent “train track” scarring from staples. This is usually caused when sutures are pulled a bit too tight during a follicular unit transplant procedure closure. Over time, and I’m talking about serveral months, you may get the occasional “build up” in one of the staple hole areas, but this is normal. As a fellow hair loss sufferer, I had this after all three of my hair transplant procedures. It will rectify itself and just simply go away.

Ted,
Scar revision (using a standard or trichophytic closure) is definitely an option for patients who are not happy with previous hair transplant scars. A trichophytic closure helps reduce tension on the wound, and, in doing so, reduces the possibility of stretching. If you’re interested in this procedure, I highly recommend consulting with one of our qualified hair transplant surgeons:

I have had three HT and two strip scars. I am hoping to get a trico closure hoping to minimize one of the scars – is this a viable option?
