I’m interested in buying a hair loss shampoo and came across Ultrax Labs Hair Surge shampoo, the price is steep at $100 per eight ounces, is it worth buying?
The short answer is no. There are a lot of hair loss products that promise the sun and the moon. These products rarely deliver on anything. The only shampoo that is somewhat effective at treating genetic hair loss is Nizoral. Nizoral contains the active ingredient ketoconazole.
In one study, topical ketoconazole was more effective at treating hair loss than Rogaine (minoxidil). Participants who used ketoconazole saw an eighteen percent increase in hair density, as opposed to eleven percent seen with minoxidil. You can buy a seven-ounce bottle of Nizoral for $14.99 at any convenient store.
The only two ingredients found worth mentioning in the Ultrax Labs Hair Surge shampoo are saw palmetto and ketoconazole- this so-called ‘hair loss shampoo’ doesn’t even contain castor oil, biotin, or any other fatty acid. Two other popular hair loss shampoos that contain better ingredients at a lower price are Regenpure DR shampoo and Lipogaine Big 3 shampoo. Both of these shampoos cost $25, a fourth of the cost of Ultrax Labs Hair Surge shampoo.
No shampoo will effectively treat hair loss alone. However, a good ketoconazole based shampoo may work in combination with other proven treatments. To date, there are only two FDA-approved medications, and neither of them is a shampoo. Therefore, don’t waste money on an over-priced shampoo, especially if you can buy a similar product for a fraction of the price.
