What is the Best Hairline Design for a Hair Transplant?
This insightful answer was provided by Dr. Richard S. Keller of Deerfield, Ill who is one of our recommended hair restoration physicians.
What is the best way to design a hairline for a hair transplant? I have seen some hairlines designed in an irregular pattern and others that appear to be very linear. Also, does the length of the donor strip vary with the number of grafts to be transplanted?
Hairlines are often created differently with different ethnic hairstyles, head shapes, degrees of balding and the patient’s desires taken into consideration. In my practice, a patient’s hairline usually follows their natural hairline prior to hair loss.
I customize the length of the donor region with the desired number of follicular unit grafts. In some, with less laxity, a longer two layer trichophytic scar has less tension and creates a better cosmetic closure. This concept is especially important for those who wear shorter hair styles.
